There's a lot of confusion about how to wear halo hair extensions. And understandably so.
The whole concept of a hair extension that doesn't attach to your head...!
I know it sounds strange. But in this article I'll show you exactly how to put on your halo, in just 3 easy steps.
And on top of that, I'll show you how to do some of my favourite hair styles with your new halo.
So here's what we'll cover:
Let's get started.
The first step when it comes to how to wear halo hair extensions is proper prep.
And I don't mean wash your hair and lather, rinse, repeat. I mean prep your extensions.
But don't worry, I promise this is also extremely easy.
Firstly, fresh out of the box your halo has been chemically straightened. This means it looks much, MUCH thinner than what it actually is.
So, how do you make your halo thicker?
Wet it and dry it. Don't wash it. Just wet it and dry it with a blow dryer or let it air dry overnight. Wetting your halo before you wear it will cause it to literarily double in volume.
Halo hair extensions are designed to look as natural possible, so this means it should be cut and blended with your hair.
Or, the ends of your hair may need to be thinned out to blend better with the halo.
Either way we always recommend taking your halo with you to the salon to have it blended and cut perfectly to suit your hair.
And importantly, we need to make sure we get the right colour halo for you.
Colour matching is crucial so make sure you seek the help of one of our professional stylists before you buy your shade.
Seriously, colour matching is as easy as sliding into our insta DMs with a selfie or sending us a message here.
Getting the right thickness is also a must.
The fine halo is made to be worn the same length as your locks and is purely to boost volume, whereas the medium halo gives you a touch of length and body.
Then there is the thick halo which is made for babes who want it all. So if you want a whole lotta body and extra length, the thick halo is probably for you.
Now that we know the halo hair golden rules, let's get into how to wear halo hair extensions so you can see just how easy it really is!
Now that your halo hair extensions are prepped, you're ready to put them on. This is simple and we've outlined the steps below:
To make sure your halo hair extensions blend beautifully and look as natural as possible. Start by pulling the top section of your hair into a top knot. Leave two inch wide sections out at the front of your face.
Pulling your hair up before you place the halo is optional, but I find it helps a lot with blending the hair later on.
The wire should be about an inch back from your forehead.
Then push the back of the weft down so it sits firmly below your occipital bone. (This is the small bump your can feel at the back of you head.)
You may want to secure the hair in place using the detachable velcro clips - this is entirely up to you.
Now the top section of your hair should cover the halo.
Using a tail comb pull pieces of hair over the halo and wire until it is completely covered. Brush through the ends of your locks until the strands are blended.
Now that you have your halo in, let's talk styling.

Mermaid waves seem to be forever trending on Instagram and tbh, I ain't mad about it.
(Mermaids do traditionally summon men to deaths after all, so I'm all about that).
But, its surge in popularity is probably more to do with the fact it's an easy and low maintenance hairstyle that also looks cute AF.
But thin hair might look more meh than mermaid when it comes to this style.
Hence why halos and mermaid waves are a match made in hair heaven. So here is how to level you your salty strands.
