How To Care For Halo Hair Extensions

How To Care For Halo Hair Extensions

Once your halo arrives, and the good hair days are just seconds away, there's only one thing left to do:

Make sure those good hair days last longer than your ex boyfriend.

Or the cactus you accidentally watered and drowned (coming from experience).

Our halo is made from 100% real human Remy hair.

So just like human hair, it has to be treated well and taken care of.

Follow these hair tips to increase the lifespan of your halo, so you and your halo can feel good for longer.

Halo Hair Care Tip #1: Avoid putting product on your halo.

This especially goes for hydrating products like serums and oils.

Do not apply these kind of shiny, silky products to your halo.

Simply put:

Serums and oils will make dirt stick to the hair, and could result in your halo hair feeling gunky* or matted.*

There are a few exceptions, which I'll cover later.

Halo Hair Care Tip #2: DO NOT use hairspray on your halo.

You see, the problem isn't the hairspray itself.

It's what happens after the hairspray.

Picture this:

Jessica puts on her halo and sprays her hair with hairspray.

The next day, Jessica decides to straighten her halo.

We all know hairspray is highly flammable.

And straighteners or curlers apply heat to the hair.

You see where I'm going with this?

Heat styling tools and flammable product are not a good combo.

The worst case scenario is that you will burn the Remy hair your halo is made from, leaving the hair brittle or breaking.

Or even worse, the colour of the halo may change due to the combination of hairspray chemicals and heat.

It's not worth the risk!

I'd only suggest using hairspray if you really need it, like on your wedding day, and then make sure to wash the hairspray out of the halo before the next time you curl or straighten it.

Which brings me to my next point...

Halo Hair Care Tip #3: Avoid washing your halo too often.

Wondering how often to wash your halo hair extensions?

A ballpark suggestion is wash your halo every 3 months.

If your halo doesn't look or feel like it needs to be washed, don't wash it for the sake of it.

Think of it like this:

The halo has all the perks of your real hair, without the high maintenance.

You can style it with straighteners or curlers like you would your real hair.

But unlike your real hair, it won't get oily or dirty if you don't wash it for a week.

When you do wash your halo hair extensions, it's important to use a shampoo and conditioner for normal hair.

All those fancy Argan oil or avocado oil infused shampoos and conditioners can do great things for your natural hair, but once again any oil based hair products are just going to clog up the wefts of your halo hair.

If you want to know more, I recommend reading our guide on how to wash your halo hair extensions.

Note: When your halo arrives, it will be industrially straightened. So we recommend spraying it with water or rinsing it under a tap, and once it dries it will have more volume.

Halo Hair Care Tip #4: Protect your halo before heat styling.

I know before I said to avoid using hair products on the halo.

The exception to the rule, is heat protector.

I highly recommend using heat protector on your halo hair extensions before styling.

Our Sitting Pretty Halo is made from real human hair and goes through a preservation process called Remy, which coats the hair and colour to last.

Unfortunately, overdoing the heat styling on your halo will deteriorate the protective coating on the hair strands overtime.

The good news?

Heat protector can help prevent this from happening.

Spray heat protector on your hair before blow-drying, curling or straightening your halo hair extensions to protect the quality and increase it's lifespan.

Halo Hair Care Tip #5: The best place to store your halo.

When your halo isn't busy making your hair Beyoncé-level good, the halo should be stored in a cool, dark place.

And no, we don't mean the fridge.

Keep your halo stored in it's Sitting Pretty box in your draw or wardrobe.

This will protect the Remy hair and the colour, not to mention will seal it away from any dust.

It's better than leaving your halo out in your room with sun exposure all day.
