Hands down, the best part about being brunette - and staying brunette - is healthier hair.
I figured that out the hard way, after consistently going blonde finally took it's toll on my once-healthy mane.
I've since been growing out my brunette locks and there's a dramatic difference in the thickness and softness of my hair.
Not to mention, my hair actually grows now that I'm back to brunette!
Unlike the sacrifice that comes with bleaching your hair blonde, brunette hues don't strip the colour from your hair.
There are two methods of going brunette:
Toner or dye.
Both of which are less damaging to the hair follicle than bleach.
Toner is used to slightly adjust your hair colour a few shades.
Toner coats the hair rather than penetrating the hair (as bleach does), so it doesn't compromise the quality of the hair.
One of the perks of toner is that there's no regrowth.
It washes out after 6-8 washes, so rather than a clear line of colour regrowth, the colour still looks blended as it fades until your next colour appointment.
Dye is more permanent and used for more dramatic changes in hair colour.
E.g if you went from mousy brown to dark chocolate brown.
According to Schwarzkopf;
"When hair is dyed, the cuticle is opened and color pigments penetrate the hair. Hair color is always permanent: It does not wash out, but grows out over time. The more the dye color differs from your natural tone, the more visible the regrowth."
Whether you're already brunette and looking for a change or you're a blonde wanting to see if you can have just as much fun with brunette locks, these brunette colour ideas will help you find what hues and highlights will suit you.
