So, are you ready to dig in?

Why is my hair not getting thicker?

Great question.

And here's the answer:

There is no ONE single reason.

The causes are varied.

But...

The 5 most typical causes of hair thinning are (with the exception of autoimmune disorder, disease, etc.):

The main causes for hair thinning

a) Low level stress

Stress switches your body into fight or flight response.

In this state your body thinks it's in danger.

It's in a constant state of high alertness, ready to either fight or flee from danger.

So...

Your body shifts its energy resources for growing hair and nails (low-priority) to maintaining a high level of readiness.

And;

Most people are in a constant state of low level stress without even realising because it's so normal in today's society.

Staying in this state will diminish your hair health.

b) Nutritional building blocks

Our bodies use the food that we eat to produce new cells (hair, skin, muscles, etc.).

But;

if your diet is poor or lacking nutrients, then your body won't have the building blocks to produce healthy hair (and nails).

And over time, the quality of your hair will diminish.

The result;

Hair breakage.

c) High toxicity levels

Similar to stress, when your body is in a toxic state it won't prioritise hair growth.

It will spend all its resources on eliminating toxins from the system.

Worse yet;

A lot of these toxins are eliminated through the pores of your skin.

Including the pores on your scalp.

Which can change the pH balance of your scalp and produce bad scalp bacteria.

And;

This can cause a range of scalp issues which affects hair growth.

d) Environmental damage

Environmental damage to your hair includes excessive sun damage, toxic fumes from cars, rain damage and hard water.

Yes, I did say rain damage.

Because;

Rain isn't exactly clean.

All the pollutants from cars, etc. ends up in the rain that lands on your head.

And sun damage;

Well, we're all aware that the sun burns our skin.

But it also burns our hair.

A little bit here and there isn't a problem. But a lot in one go...this isn't good.

Also, EMF (Electromagnetic Frequencies);

EMF is a form of non-ionising radiation.

Emitted from cell towers, phones, computers, and wifi modems, etc.

This form of radiation is mild, but pervasive.

It has been shown to cause a form of stress-tension in the body, on a cellular level,

And as we already know... stress isn't good for hair growth.

And lastly, hard water;

Hard water is water (like tap water) with high mineral content, like calcium, limestone or chalk.

These minerals coat your hair.

And cause it to become dry. Then brittle.

I can also block your pores.

Which stops new hair strands from growing.

e) Intentional damage

Shampoo, bleaching, heat styling...

We're talking about all the things we do to our hair that damages it.

Bleaching and heat styling are obvious ones.

But;

Did you know that washing your hair can damage your hair more than almost any other factor?

So as you can see;

There are a lot of things that we need to be mindful of.

But there's some good news too...

The thing is:

The human organism (like any other living organism) perpetually and naturally moves in the direction of optimal health.

This is the fundamental and most basic law of nature.

And as you may have already realised;

Health is beauty.

So...

All you really need to do is;

Stop doing the things that is causing the issue.

And this is how to get thick hair naturally.

In a nutshell.

But, we'll go into more depth.

In the next section I'll share the 5 step plan for how to grow your hair thicker:

As you've now seen;

Getting thicker and longer hair isn't so much about what to do.

But rather...

It's about what not to do.

Or what to avoid.

Add these steps into your life and watch your hair grow.

Here we go:

1. Build up an excess of the right hair growth nutrients, and eliminate internal pollutants:

Let me share a simple idea with you:

Your hair grows from your head.... “Ummm...obviously..”

I know that sounds simplistic.

And it is.

But...

The really obvious point that is often overlooked is:

In order for your hair to grow long and healthy, your body first needs to be healthy.

Period.

It's actually that simple.

Let me explain:

When your body is starved of nutrients (when you eat crappy, low nutrition foods) your hair and nails are the first area that your body starts stealing nutrition from.

Because your body can live without nails.

It can even live without hair.

But it can’t live without the brain, or the muscles, or the heart, etc.

Simply speaking:

If you’re low on nutrition your hair and nails don’t eat…

You get the point.

This means;

If you’re not feeding your body with the right nutrients your body won’t have enough excess nutrients to feed your hair.

Which means it won’t grow...

Remember this:

"Hair is a luxury. And to enjoy luxuries you need to have excess."

So:

To make sure you have the right nutrients for hair growth in excess try these simple ideas;

Eat vitamin dense food 🥑 🥦 🍑

Ensure 80-90% of your diet is vitamin dense food.

Foods like:

  • Cruciferous vegetables, including broccoli, cauliflower and kale.
  • Legumes, like beans and lentils.
  • Leafy greens, including spinach and chard.
  • Healthy fats, from avocado and nuts (unsalted).
  • Wholefood supplements like cacao powder or nibs, maca and super greens powder.

Make sure they’re fresh. And that they’re mixed (consumed as a meal).

Why mixed?

Because:

Certain nutrients are absorbed easier when they’re mixed with certain other vitamins.

For example;

Iron is absorbed more easily when mixed with vitamin C.

Etc.

Reduce your intake of processed foods, toxins and meats:

By the way;

This is not a discussion about vegetarian vs other diets.

I'm not vegan or vegetarian.

I’m just telling you what’s scientifically proven to help you get thicker hair :)

Processed foods, like pasta, bread, snacks, bacon, sausage, salami, cereals, sugar, pastries (you know, all the good stuff) is hard for the body to digest and contains very little nutrients compared to the volume of calories.

So you'll feel full, and you might even pack on fat. But you'll be nutritionally starving.

And so will your hair.

These foods, including meat, are also rich in toxins.

And, we we've already discussed;

Toxins kill your hair gains by putting stress on your body.

Get your iron:

Eat plenty of iron filled foods.

Ideally from vegetables because of the high nutrition density of these foods.

Also;

The form of iron from vegetable sources has been shown to be superior in quality to that of the iron from animal meat.

This is still controversial because of the push back by the meat industry.

And if you don't believe me;

Do your research.

I'm just telling you what I know to be true.

2. Limit exposure to environmental damage and pollutants:

This is dead simple.

Like I mentioned earlier:

One of the main causes of hair thinning is toxicity.

And;

A common source of toxicity (other than your diet) is your direct environment.

The environment you put your hair into...

By this I’m talking about two things:

Firstly;

When we're bleaching and colouring our hair. orusing harmful hair products or shampoos.

These processes and products are loaded with toxins. That build up over time.

And causes your hair to break.

You can easily substitute your salon or supermarket grade shampoos for gentle and natural hair products like Hello Hair.

And minimise the amount of colouring/bleaching of your hair.

That’s part one. This is part two...

You need to make sure your hair has the right environment for growth.

Make sure you:

Get out in the sun.

But not too much.

Sun is super important for hair growth.

Because it's one of our main sources of Vitamin D.

However;

Your hair doesn't absorb the sun's rays.

It just gets sun damaged.

So if you're going out in the sun; pop on a hat.

Or apply hair-sunscreen.

But make sure it's free of toxins. That's important.

Get plenty of clean, fresh air.

Oxygen is super important for our bodies.

We use oxygen for everything.

Make sure you get some exercise.

Through exercise is one of the main ways that our bodies are able to detoxify.

This is one of the main reasons why people who exercise look so damn beautiful.

Their skin comes alive, and their hair becomes more healthy.

Exercise also helps you relax.

Have you ever wondered why people look so damn good after coming back from a long holiday?

Plenty of fresh air, plenty of sun, a bit of salt water, and lots of relaxation.

3. De-stress and re-lax

Stress is just about the most harmful thing you can do.

To yourself AND to your hair.

It’s seriously bad!

Think about it for a minute;

Stress is a state of heightened awareness and alertness.

The body has been trained for many thousands of years to trigger stress when it’s in dangerous situations...

...like you’re about to be eaten by a bear.

In a stressful situation like that;

Your body will feed all its energy into processes related to fight/flight.

Like;

  • Heightened awareness
  • Protective mechanisms
  • Muscle tension (to allow you to spring into action)

That's a very healthy state...

...if you're being chased by a bear.

But over long periods of time;

It's damaging to your body.

Because:

It doesn't feed energy and nutrients into other areas...

...like hair growth.

So...those areas begin to "lack".

They starve.

Hence:

Hair thinning.

So we need to kick-the-stress!

Which is normally more easily said than done.

But...

Here are a couple of simple ideas that do wonders at relieving stress:

  • Exercise; Take up a regular yoga class a few times a week and/or adopt another form of exercise like weight lifting. This can be massively stress relieving.
  • Work shorter hours; Ask yourself, is your job really worth going bald for?
  • Drink less coffee; Coffee stimulates your adrenal functions and if consumed in large quantities or over a long period of time it can cause adrenal fatigue and hormone imbalance.
  • Meditate; Learn to resensitise and understand your deeper distress in your body. By understanding this you will naturally gravitate away from situations that cause you stress and harm.
  • Sleep; Master your sleep. And go to bed earlier. Watch less TV. Sleep more deeply. This is hugely stress relieving.

Sometimes stress is a necessary evil.

Especially if;

You’ve got to get a job done by a certain deadline.

Or you're being attacked by a bear...

But:

You need to decide when enough is enough.

4. How to get thick hair by managing hormones

Alright it’s science-time!

Here's the thing:

Your body might be producing too much estrogen;

An overflow of estrogen converts to testosterone...which is the same hormone that causes men to go bald!

Or...

You might have a lack of estrogen.

Which means;

Your body isn’t feeding enough energy to hair-production.

I know what you’re thinking;

Wtf is wrong with my body :|

Don’t worry: this is more common than you think.

I mean;

Seriously, who has any kind of balance in their life these days?

So:

What causes hormonal imbalance?

Good question.

A lot of the time hormonal imbalance can be caused by;

  • Poor diet.
  • Stress.
  • Genetics.
  • Autoimmune disease <-- which is more common than you might think.
  • Iron deficiency.
  • A deficiency in another essential vitamin/mineral.

In any case;

If you’re really serious about growing your hair you should at least find if your hormones are out of balance. And find out what might be causing it.

This is simple…

Get your blood tested by a doctor to find out what’s causing the imbalance.

Some doctors like Dr Jeff Jankelson in Sydney, Australia can take these types of blood tests and provide direction around how to balance your hormones out again.

That alone can create a world of difference.

Not just for your hair growth...

...but for how you feel generally.
