One of the many perks of working in the hair biz;

From time to time I get to spend my day with hair stylists and pick their brains on the current products they reach for, both on shoots and for their own hair.

You know those satisfying 'aha!' moments where you think 'why haven't I done that/tried this/heard about that already?'

I've had a few of those.

And it would be selfish not to share what all the fuss was about.

On one of our recent Sitting Pretty photoshoots with Emma Chen and Alana Mevissen we got talking about products they swear by.

Combine that with some very thorough Insta-stalking of celeb hairstylists, and some of my own hairdresser's recommendations, and you've got yourself the créme de la créme of hair products.

Please see below the best hair products for all hair dramas and hair pursuits, as declared by our fav hair experts.

Best hair product for dry, damaged hair

Olaplex Hair Perfector No. 3

Since Olaplex came onto my radar, it seems like every person under the sun is raving about it. Once you try it yourself you'll know why. It's an intensive hair treatment that does a damn good job at preventing hair damage and repairing dry, already damaged hair.

Aveda Damage Remedy Daily Hair Repair

This leave-in treatment simultaneous repairs your hair and protects it from heat styling and breakage. Anything that fixes two of my hair problems in one hit is a yes from me.

My hairdresser recommends Aveda's products as they're free from a lot of crappy chemicals, including parabens, mineral oil, petrolatum, formaldehyde, animal Ingredients and synthetic fragrance.

Best heat-styling protectors

Evo Icon Welder Heat Protectant Spray

It smooths your hair. It detangles your hair. It seals your hair to prepare it from heat.

It also smells delightful, but the real delight is your hair not snapping off because you're burning your locks with heat tools every week.

I know. Savage.

But that's the reality if you don't spend a few extra seconds spraying leave-in heat protecting spray before you heat style.

Some of you out there will be reading this, knowing you don't currently use any heat protecting product.

Yes, I see you.

PLEASE vow that after reading this article you will never style your hair without heat protecting spray again.

You and your hair can thank me later.

Best texturising sprays and powders

For that sought after texture and volume we're always on a mission to achieve.

These are some of the best texture and volume enhancing products for fine hair.

Kevin Murphy Bedroom Hair

A game changer.

This texturising spray is amazing quality, light yet adds just the right amount of grip to give your hair some much needed shoosh-ing and volume.

Notably also smells delicious.

Important, because there's nothing worse than finding a great product that makes your hair have a weird scent.

French Girl Rose Sea Spray - Hair Texture Mist

French Girl's sea spray is the gourmet, fine-dining of sea salt sprays.

Made with three varieties of organic sea salt and nourishing essential oils, with organic Aloe & Panthenol to condition your hair.

The sea salts add texture by opening the hair cuticle and plumping up strands, creating effortless, beachy hair.

Recommended not only because it's another beautifully lightweight, texturising product, but also doesn't contain harmful chemicals (no alcohol, no chemical enhancers).

Aveda Texture Tonic

Another fab option for getting that piece-y texture and more volume to thin or fine hair. Minus all the baddies like parabens, petroleum etc etc.

Best blonde toners

Finding the best toner is an extra important one.

You want that happy balance of a toner that is effective and easy to use, so you don't risk over-processing the toner.

Evo Fabuloso Platinum Blonde Colour Boosting Treatment

A more natural alternative to toning your blonde hair and getting rid of any yellow blonde colour.

We also recommending using Evo to tone your Sitting Pretty Halo if you need your blonde more ashy to match your colour.

Due to it's natural qualities, Evo's products are safe to use with the real human Remy Hair our halos are made from. (We don't recommend using too many chemicals products on your halo to increase it's lifespan.

Fudge Clean Blonde Violet Toning Shampoo

I like my blonde highlights on the blonde'ier side than looking all copper.

For that reason my hairdresser recommends using Fudge's Purple Shampoo every second wash (shampoo twice).

Best hair oils for shiny, hydrated, frizz-free hair

Ouai Hair Oil

Sealing split ends and smoothing frizz with a high gloss, silky finish.

Jen Atkin's Ouai Hair Oil contains African galanga root extract and nutrient-rich ama, borage and baobab oils.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't have to google what exactly these ingredients are, but in simple terms it means they help repair damage by nourishing the hair.

Aside from being a go-to product for controlling frizz, this oil also prevents colour from fading and protects your hair from sun damage.

Jen suggests you can also use it as a hydrating overnight hair mask by sleeping with the oil in your hair and rinsing it out in the morning.

Gisou Honey Infused Hair Oil

Honey is an AMAZING ingredient for your hair due to it's moisture-retaining properties.

Gisou's Hair Oil combines honey with almond oil and coconut oil to deeply condition and strengthen your hair, while keeping frizz under control.

We love that this product doesn't contain sulphate or parabens and is cruelty-free.

BONUS: Stylist hack for ombre hair

L'Oreal Magic Retouch

Yes, I did just make a bonus sub-heading merely so I could rave about this bomb hair hacking spritzer.

Okay, this one's a little biased but;

A great trick our hair stylists have been loving is using L'Oreal Magic Retouch to create an ombre/regrowth affect on the Sitting Pretty Halo.

The product itself is meant for concealing grey roots, but it's duo purpose is that it makes for any easy way to create colour dimension at the root of your SP Halo.

If you colour your hair and you want to wear extensions, you'll love this DIY ombre technique.

It's perfect for those weeks leading up to your next hair appointment where you still want your halo colour to blend naturally.
