You've spent good money on it. So naturally you're going to want to take good care of it.
Right?
Why you need to wash your halo hair extension
It's simple really; your halo hair extension is an asset. And like any great asset, if you take care of it, it'll last longer and continue to pay off. Which puts more value back in your life.
Simply put:
By washing it when it needs to be washed you'll be extending the lifespan of your Halo.
When you need to wash your halo extension
Look, to be frank, washing your Halo Hair Extension is not an everyday thing.
Once every 2 months at the most. Unless you're super active. And you use your Halo everyday. Like, at the gym, etc. In that case you should wash more regularly.
You can gauge when it's the right time to wash by the oil build up.
But in all other cases less is more. If you wash it too much you'll wear it out.
So stick to once every 2-3 months. Seriously, it's not weird. You just don't have to wash it that often.

Before you wash your halo hair extensions
First of all, to wash your Halo you can't just use any old shampoo. Well...you can. But it's not advised.
So what should you use? Great question.
We recommend using a shampoo and conditioner that's specially formulated for hair extensions.
There aren't too many good ones around. Sure, they all have their place. But you need something with a decent amount of silicon, but definitely not too much.
Also, because the hair has been processed in colouring, acid, etc. it's important that the shampoo and conditioner you use isn't toxic.
So, what's the solution?
Well, we had the same issue. So we made our own Shampoo and Conditioner, specially formulated for halo hair extensions.
The best thing about this shampoo and conditioner? It works on your own hair too - surprisingly well. And it's 100% paraben free.
Can I wear the Halo while I wash it?
Ummm...sure. But, do you really want to?
If you think it's easier, then by all means you do you.
But let me ask you this:
"Do you normally wear your clothes when you wash them?"
Ok, it's not exactly the same, but I think it might be easier to wash your Halo in the sink.
Besides, washing your hair when you have 30-100% more hair in can be very time consuming and it can be hard to rinse the shampoo and conditioner out thoroughly.
I recommend you wash our Halo in the sink or in the bath tub if you prefer.
And believe me; I've tried EVERYTHING...

How to wash halo hair extensions
Read these steps carefully; you don't want to miss something.
1. Proper preparation will make the job easier
Washing your halo hair extension is different to washing your normal hair.
Hair extensions in general have a higher propensity to matt and tangle.
So you need to make sure you brush before you wash. Use a bristle brush or something gentle. Brush your hair starting from the bottom and working your way up whilst brushing in a downwards motion
2. How to thoroughly wash the Halo
Once your Halo Hair is brushed, gently soak the hair in cool water making sure the water runs down the Halo from the top to avoid the water pressure matting up the hair.

3. Getting the shampoo-part right
When your hair is soaked, stroke some shampoo through your Halo Hair Extensions in a downward motion. This will avoid tangling.
If you're not using our specially formulated Halo Hair Extensions shampoo, then at least avoid using anti dandruff shampoos or any shampoo with sulphate in them.
A gentle shampoo will work just fine.
After you've lathered a generous amount of shampoo into the hair, wash the shampoo out thoroughly.
This will take a few minutes - and it's important you do this right.
If you don't wash the shampoo out properly the hair will feel sticky and will matt up when you wear it.
Rinse for a good 2-3 minutes or until you feel that all shampoo has been washed out.
You may need to do this a couple of times to make sure your hair is really clean.
4. Conditioning your halo hair
Use a generous amount of conditioner.
Stroke the conditioner through the hair and leave in for 5-10 minutes.

Back to conditioning...
There's no need to leave treatment or conditioner in the hair over night. That'll just suffocate the hair.
Besides, treatments usually stop taking affect after 5 minutes any way.
At this point, just rinse the hair thoroughly. Similar thing again, make sure the conditioner has been properly rinsed out.
5. Drying the Halo without damaging it
The key to this step is to minimise the amount of heat treatment.
So to get the bulk of the water out, gently wring the Halo Hair in a slight twisting motion.
What I normally do is...
I'll lay my Halo Hair Extension on a dry towel, fold the towel in half (lengthwise) so that the Halo Hair is covered by the towel on both the top and the bottom.
Then I gently push down to squeeze excess water out of it.
And then;
After your Halo is ringed thoroughly you can either dry it with a hair dryer set on a low heat.
Or...
My preference is to leave it to air dry naturally over the next couple of days, then style accordingly.
Usually you'll need to straighten or blow wave the halo back to straight as it drys with a natural wave like most human hair does.
Last tips for washing your halo hair extensions:
- Beware of product build-up like hair serums, use them sparingly
- Heat protection spray is always a good idea when using hot tools
- Don't use alcohol based products...ever...on anything unless it's a hard surface bench...
- Stay clear of products with sulphate
- Be gentle when brushing
